I'm all about health, baby!

So, as a corollary to my lose-weight-to-look-good-in-jeans plan, I've also been working on a lose-weight-to-live-longer plan. As part of that plan (and at the suggestion of my dear mother), I made an appointment to see a cardiologist to get a few things checked out.

He confirmed a couple of facts for me: 1. I am out of shape 2. I could stand to lose a few pounds.

He actually used the phrase, "Well, it's not like your markedly overweight and you're not a slug"...an effort to make boost my self esteem? He emphasized for me the importance of continuing my running program for cardio (to be honest I'm a little pissed I'm not in better than "pretty bad" cardio shape after six weeks of running) and watching my blood pressure. I go for an echocardiogram on Friday to see how the ticker is functioning overall, so good times all around.

It was nice, though, to have a reminder that losing weight and getting in shape is about more than reducing the sense of shame in a bathing suit (or at one of those new naked parties Stephen mentioned). I am going to follow up this appointment with a general physical so I can get my cholesterol and all the other ugly numbers. Reality may not be pretty, but what we don't know CAN hurt us. Isn't that how the old saying goes?

So get thee to a doctor for a check-up if you haven't done so recently. The added shame from a weight lecture will surely boost your weekly results.

:-)

Jen
